Built on the official Telegram client

Encrypt your private messages.

Ecryptgram is a security-hardened fork of the official Telegram client. Turn on the red lock and a one-to-one conversation is encrypted end to end on your device — texts, photos, voice notes and files stay private between the two people in the chat.

Free · No signup · Installs alongside the official Telegram app

Core capabilities

Two things the official client cannot do.

Everything else about Ecryptgram is the Telegram you already use — the same chats, the same media, the same shortcuts. These are the parts we added.

01

End-to-end encryption for your private chats

Keys for a conversation are issued by the service the client connects to, never by a third party. Each 1:1 chat is encrypted on your device, and only the two people in it can read the messages.

  • Only the two people in the conversation hold the key
  • Text, photos, video, files and voice messages all covered
  • One tap on the lock icon turns it on for a conversation
Two conversations showing the same red lock, confirming that both ends of the chat hold the session key.

02

Burn after reading. Forwarding blocked.

Set a timer on a conversation and the message is destroyed on both devices at once. Forwarding, screenshots and copying can be restricted from the same menu — controls the official client does not offer.

  • The timer destroys the message at both ends
  • Forwarding and screenshots can be disabled per chat
  • View-once media is supported

And the rest

Everything else you would expect.

One-tap encryption

Tap the lock in any 1:1 chat to turn encryption on or off. Both ends see the state change straight away.

Runs alongside the official app

A different package name, a different signing certificate and a separate data directory. Both clients install on the same device and message each other normally.

Every media type covered

Photos, video, voice messages and documents are encrypted and reported the same way as text.

Multi-device ready

One account can hold more than one registered device. Session keys are wrapped separately for each endpoint.

Dark theme included

The full dark theme ships as standard on both platforms. Nothing to configure, no extra download.

No third-party key server

Keys for your conversations are never held by a third-party key service — nothing sits in the middle of a chat you have encrypted.

Compatibility

It is still Telegram. Just with a lock on it.

Ecryptgram is a deep, maintained fork of the official Telegram client — not a wrapper and not a skin. Everything you know keeps working, and the official apps keep talking to it.

What stays the same

  • The same Telegram network, contacts and chat list
  • The same media, stickers, folders and keyboard shortcuts
  • The same MTProto protocol underneath
  • Full interoperability with the official apps
  • Your existing account — no migration, no new login

What Ecryptgram adds

  • End-to-end encryption for your private 1:1 chats
  • A red lock on every 1:1 conversation that is protected
  • Burn-after-reading and forwarding control
  • Device identity bound to each registered endpoint

Different package name and a different signing certificate — so the official app and Ecryptgram can sit side by side on the same device.
